December 4, 2015: Discharge and Separation
On Friday, December 4, 2015, after being admitted for four days, my daughter was discharged from the University of Kentucky hospital. During the four-day stay, the social workers worked to find a foster family for her. However, despite searching in Lexington, they were unable to locate a suitable family and ultimately sent her to Nicholasville.
The Hospital’s Knowledge of the Injury
By the time of discharge, the hospital staff knew that the only fracture present was the rib fracture from the October 2015 car accident. They were aware that no additional fractures existed. However, despite knowing this, my daughter was still taken away from us and placed into foster care.
The Court Hearing Delay
Although we hoped that the first court hearing would resolve the situation and allow us to reunite with my daughter, we were forced to leave the hospital without her. Since it was the weekend, and no court hearing was scheduled until the following week, we had no choice but to wait.
The social workers and medical professionals continued to push the narrative that something other than the car accident had caused the injury, despite the evidence to the contrary. We were left in a state of confusion and helplessness, unable to see our child or take her home.
